Starting from production characteristics, machinery manufacturing has main features of being primarily discrete, supplemented by process, and focused on assembly.
1. Low On-Time Delivery Rate
Many mechanical parts, different part processing/procurement cycles vary; complex processes, from first to last process completion, take days or weeks. Actual production cycle often takes months or years.
2. Heavy Workload in Production Planning and Task Management
Typical discrete machinery manufacturing enterprises mainly engage in single-piece, small-batch production, with frequent process changes; hard to predict order arrival as production is order-based.
3. Relatively Low Automation Level
Machinery manufacturing relies on workers' skills for quality and productivity; automation is mainly unit-level, e.g., CNC machines, FMS.
4. Many On-Site Documents/Drawings, Cumbersome Operations
Many parts and materials require filling out numerous requisition/production documents; design drawings distribution, recovery, and transfer cause management challenges.
